Friends,
I’m thrilled to share some personal and professional news: beginning June 4, right after Shavuot, I will be stepping into the role of Executive Director of Carolina Jews for Justice (CJJ).
This transition marks a new chapter in my journey—a chance to lead an organization that lives out the core values of our tradition. CJJ’s work is rooted in the belief that every human being is created in the image of the Divine—and thus worthy of dignity, voice, and belonging. Our tradition compels us not just to care about our neighbors, but to love them as ourselves. That means showing up for one another, especially in a time when the rights and well-being of so many are under attack.
Over the past four years, I’ve had the honor of serving as the inaugural Director of Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Reconstructing Judaism. Now, I carry much of what I've learned into a new space—one where I can help grow a movement grounded in the belief that none of us are free until all of us are free
CJJ has been doing incredible work across the state—organizing around voting rights, economic equity, and the dignity of every North Carolinian. North Carolina is our home—Susan, Bridget, Simon, Stella and I have built a life here, and we truly love this state. That deep connection deepens my commitment to CJJ’s mission. CJJ creates space for Jews of all backgrounds to live out the Torah’s call to protect the stranger and repair the world. I’m excited and honored to join this work.
I am also deeply grateful to have you alongside me on this path. Many of you have followed my journey since before I was ordained, and your support has meant the world to me. The work ahead is holy work. I can’t wait to begin this new chapter with you, and I hope you’ll continue walking with me as we work to build a more just and compassionate North Carolina.
With gratitude and hope,
R’ Sandra
Help me hit the ground running.
Your support has always meant so much, and right now, it’s more vital than ever. As I step into this new role with CJJ, I’m asking for your help to build a Jewish community grounded in our highest values: dignity, equity, love, and sacred responsibility.
If my work has ever resonated with you, or if you believe in building a world shaped by compassion and collective care, please consider making a donation today to CJJ. Your gift will directly support CJJ’s efforts to amplify marginalized voices, bring people together, and take bold, values-driven action across North Carolina.
To learn more about CJJ’s impact across North Carolina, I encourage you to visit their website and consider following them on social media Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Staying informed is another powerful way to support this important work.
What does the Eternal require of you? To do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly…(Micah 6:8)
Let’s keep building together—in community, in hope, and with love
