About Me
Hi, I’m Rabbi Sandra Lawson—writer, speaker, and Americana musician blending Jewish tradition with modernity. Through my work, I explore the intersection of spirituality, justice, and culture, creating spaces that inspire hope, resilience, and connection.
As a thought leader, I aim to challenge and expand perceptions of what a rabbi—and the rabbinate—looks like. I tackle difficult questions about Jews, Judaism, race and issues of the day through podcasts, essays, media appearances, and speeches, while also teaching Torah in digital spaces to an audience of more than 100,000 across platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat. In 2020, the Forward named me to its “Forward 50,” recognizing me as a “truth teller.” In 2022 the Center for American Progress said I was one of 22 Faith Leaders To Watch in 2022.
I’m a proud U.S. Army veteran, my goal is to uplift voices, challenge assumptions, and build communities grounded in compassion and inclusivity.
Here on my Substack, I share:
Reflections on Torah and Jewish values that resonate in today’s world
Stories from my personal journey and rabbinate
Insights on justice, identity, and belonging
Original music and the stories behind my songs
This is a space for anyone seeking inspiration, spiritual growth, or a deeper connection to Jewish wisdom and contemporary life.
